One Instruments Receives Large Purchase Order
from California Air Resources Board
April 16, 2000 (Grants Pass, Oregon) - MET ONE INSTRUMENTS announced
today that it has received a purchase order from the California
Air Resources Board (CARB) for twenty-nine (29) of its Model
BAM-1020 Beta Attenuation Monitors worth more than $350,000.
This brings to more than forty (40) the total number of such
instruments ordered by various California air pollution control
districts since September 1999. The BAM-1020 units will be used
to monitor particulate matter of diameter less than 10 microns
(PM10) and particulate matter of diameter less than 2.5 microns
(PM2.5) by the state.
The decision to purchase the BAM-1020 Beta Attenuation Monitors
was based, in part, on the results of a study sanctioned and
funded by CARB and performed by personnel from the University
of California at Davis. The results of this study may be obtained

Met One Instruments developed the Model BAM-1020 through a cooperation
agreement with Sibata Scientific Corporation (Tokyo Japan), a
pioneer in the theory of beta attenuation mass monitors. Met
One Instruments later obtained US-EPA certification for the Model
BAM-1020 as an Equivalent Method (EQPM-0798-122).
Although Met One Instruments has been successfully promoting
the BAM-1020 worldwide since 1996, this order represents its
largest single sale within the United States to date. "The
CARB order is the beachhead for domestic BAM-1020 sales" said
Dr. David Gobeli, Met One Instruments' Sales Director. "After
successful startup and integration of the BAM-1020 units into
the California air pollution monitoring network, Met One expects
to see continuing increased domestic interest in this product." Gobeli
said. "The CARB study demonstrates once and for all the
superior accuracy of data generated by the BAM-1020 under all
climactic conditions and in the presence of a wide array of particulate
matter - even semi-volatile components. Data accuracy is the
only true figure of merit in judging performance because without
it nothing else matters. The CARB order validates this premise." Gobeli
went on to say.
